The reform protects performing artists against voice and image cloning with AI—a real advance—but at a little-discussed cost. In Mexico, image protection was built on the Ley Federal del Derecho de Autor (Federal Law on Copyright), and its article 87 functioned as a general safeguard: jurisprudence 166/2023 (Arjona case, Amparo Directo 7/2022 – Mexican constitutional relief proceeding) had extended it to any person.
